I suggest you name your wedding day, ‘Oh Well Day.’ You can be reasonably sure that not everything will look, sound or feel exactly as you’d hoped.

All those months of planning have telescoped down to a few short hours and you have everything crossed that the multitude of tiny details you agonised over will shine. They may, or may not. It’s highly likely at least one or two aspects will turn out less than ideal.

The hack for not letting any of this affect your day is to simply say ‘oh well’ if and when they arise. Not only is it probably impossible to change at this stage, you can bet nobody else will even notice, much less care.

Everyone is on your side on your wedding day. They so want you to have a perfect celebration. It won’t matter if you trip over on the red carpet, your bridesmaid’s dress rips, you have to move indoors due to rain, the music doesn’t play, your cousin misses her flight, the cake looks nothing like what you’d ordered, the flowers are a little light on, your father’s speech goes on too long or you uncle has one too many.

All of these things are now beyond your control. So rather than waste precious emotions on them, let them go. Just say ‘oh well.’

Focus instead on what really matters: that you are joining hands and hearts with your forever partner, lover, friend; that you are supported and surrounded by the people dearest and most important to you; that your ceremony will be handled by a terrific, excellent marriage celebrant; and that whatever happens, you’re going to have the best-ever day possible.
